Background
Before joining the University of Bayreuth in spring 2011 I taught literature and theatre in the Department of New Literatures in English at Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main (2001-2003) and the African Studies Department, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2003-2010). I studied at Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main and Queen Mary (then QMW), University of London, and hold degrees from the University of Leeds. I was an associate editor to African Theatre, (James Currey/Boydell & Brewer) from 2013 until 2020 when the series ended; from 2004-2015 I was a member of the editorial board of Matatu: Journal for African Literature and Culture (Rodopi/Brill). My main interests are African, especially Eritrean, theatre and performance, postcolonial crime fiction and medical humanities. I have written too many book reviews; and I believe that studying literature should (also) be fun. Together with a group of colleagues based in the UK, USA, Canada, and Nigeria, I am currently involved in researching a German-Nigerian television production from the 1960s.
